What can I power with a Menehune Solar Power Station?
Each Menehune has different power and energy capacities. Both can power standard 120V household appliances and small power tools such as:
The larger Menehune has a 30A 240V inverter capable of powering infrequent use of larger appliances such as:
How far away can the Menehune be from my appliances?
Ideally, the Menehune should be within 30 feet of the thing you want to power. Distances as great as 50 - 75 feet are acceptable in some circumstances, but may require special wiring to prevent voltage drop depending on the type of loads you need to power.
The place I want to put the Menehune has lots of shade. Is that a problem?
The more shade that's on the Menehune the less energy it will produce. Some shade might be OK if you don't need to use much energy, but the more sun the better. Best to talk to us about the location and what you intend to power so we can make sure it will be OK.
The place I want to put the Menehune is kind of hard to get to. Is that a problem?
Probably. The Menehune is as big as a truck and will be towed in on a trailer. We need clearance and level enough ground in order to tow the Menehune into place and maneuver our vehicle. It's a good idea to send photos of the area you'd like the Menehune located, as well as the road to get there, to ensure we can safely deliver the Menehune to that location.
How do I hook up to the Menehune?
Each Menehune comes with a variety of receptacles for you to plug extensions cords into. At additional cost, our electricians can hardwire the Menehune into your electrical panel for you.
Can I use a back-up generator with the Menehune?
Yes, the Menehunes have a pigtail generator cord that can be connected to a generator if it's needed to help recharge the batteries. A back-up generator is not included with the system. You must ensure the generator is the compatible voltage with the Menehune (120V generator with the 120V Menehune, a 240V generator with the 240V Menehune).
Can I hardwire it into my breaker panel?
Yes, upon request, we can hardwire the Menehune to a breaker panel at additional cost.
Can I move the Menehune once it's dropped off?
No, the Menehune is big and heavy and requires special equipment to relocate. If you need to relocate the Menehune, please contact us to schedule that in advance.
How do you bill for the Menehune?
Typically a delivery and pick-up fee and first month rental is due up-front, and remaining months are billed monthly.
What happens if the Menehune has a problem?
Let us know and we'll fix it. We'll credit you for time the Menehune has been down.
What happens if I drain the batteries and lose power?
You have to wait for the sun to come back up to recharge the batteries, or use a back-up generator to recharge them. It's your responsibility to make sure you don't use more energy than the system can provide.
